Why Moisturize Your Child’s Curly Hair?

Thursday, December 17th, 2009

74f98551c3df4946f485083ce3144304The more Kinky, coily, or curly your child’s hair is, the more it needs to be moisturized. The natural oil from the scalp has a difficult time reaching the ends of curly hair, it tends to become dry. This makes hair dull and is more prone to breakage due to low elasticity.

Apply Curly Q’s Moist Curls Moisturizer right after conditioning and rinsing it out your child’s hair. It is also a good idea to moisturize hair in between washings. This liquid leave in will provide the moisture her thirsty tresses crave! Improves comb-ability with added curl formation! Now formulated with sunscreen for added UV protection!

Daily Care for Curly Hair

Daily Care for Curly Hair
In thing or not, curls should be managed well. My curls aren’t natural but I really want to keep it this way. There are simple ways on how to maintain your curls without using harmful chemicals that could damage your hair.  You do not want your hair to look frizzy either so start pampering those curls!
There are some things that you should remember. Avoid washing your hair every day. The natural oil keeps your hair healthy and shiny and soft. It is also good to re-mist your curls during the day if your curls are flat. After taking a bath, you also want to use a conditioner to combat hair damage. However, using a heavy conditioner can pull your curls down so you might want to consider a light conditioner.  Make sure that you rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the residue. Use a wide toothed combed to remove tangles. If your hair is frizzy, you must go for a moisturiser to define and condition your hair. Lastly, let your hair dry naturally.
For great hold- use Blended Beauty’s Jelly Cream. It is a soft hold moisturizing gel lotion that defines and conditions curls, while nourishing the scalp and hair. Smooth and define each curl with natural conditioners. Absolutely no plastics! Only silky and bouncy curls…naturally!
Directions: Apply to clean, damp, detangled hair in small sections and smooth through completely. Style with fingers, not a comb, to reduce poof.
Jelly Cream Ingredients: Aqua (enriched with/enrichi avec Aloe Barbadensis and Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile)), Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Glycerin, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Capryl Isostearate, Behentrimonium Methosulfate (and) Cetearyl Alcohol, Soy Lecithin, Perfume, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Preservative [Phenoxyethanol and Caprylyl Glycol and Sorbic Acid], Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Silk Powder.

Here are some points to remember:

  • Avoid washing your hair every day or the natural oil keeps your hair healthy and shiny and soft won’t have a chance to spread down the hair shaft.
  • It’s  good to re-mist your curls during the day if your curls are flat.
  • Always condition your hair after washing it.  A light conditioner for regular use and a more intense conditioner for periodic use.  Make sure that you rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the residue.

Locs and Loc’ing Your Hair – The Basics

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Ever wondered what some of the basic principals of loc’ing your hair would involve…? Well here are some simple pointers for you:

There are a few ways to loc including:
*two strand twists, which get washed and re-twisted without combing the hair through – a very presentable, tidy way to do it)
*gel coils which get redone at the hair dressers fortnightly or so without combing through the hair – can be quite messy in between washes
*have plait extensions and keep getting the hair re-plaited without combing the hair through
*sister locs

There are three stages of growth:
*baby locs (look neat, cute and nice)
*teenage locs (don’t do anything you want them to do)
*mature locs (settled in, manageable, thank God you didn’t give up!)

There are two ways to maintain locs after (or in some cases in between) washing your hair:
*palm rolling
*latch hooking

Things to be aware of:

* if a hairdresser knows that you want to loc your hair they may charge you more money, saying that they’re “starting your locs off”. If on the other hand you say you want comb coils, you’ll be charged the normal price for comb coils; if you say you want your hair to be twisted they’ll charge you a reasonable price to do that too but use the term “please start my locs off” at great expense.
*don’t get your locs any thinner than pencil sized (unless you like Sister locs) – remember to be practical: Don’t have more locs on your head than you’ll be comfortable managing on your own

A good tip:
*If you’re going to have slim locs, have a centre parting from the front to the back of your head when you start them off so that you can have neat bunches/pony tails, etc when your locs mature

There are some great Yahoo! groups which you could join including
*LadyLocs (Good site)
*Lovinlocs (I highly recommend this one!!!)

Natural Products for your Natural Hair

*Maintain your hair with natural shampoos, conditioners and oils – no beeswax, wax or petroleum based products as they are almost impossible to wash out of your locs.

Want to know more about loc’ing your hair or any of the pointers mentioned above?  Post your questions below…

Yours naturally,

Xina
